A bumper tasting for the month, including Singapore Airlines Business Class (the wine selection needs to improve!).

Champagne Bollinger Cuvée Speciale NV, courtesy of Sir Bob at Imperial Treasure Great World, 10 September 2026. Golden hue, proffering distant notes of yeast on the nose though crisp palate is full and sharply delineated, cushioned by very soft tiny bubbles topped with a layer of crème.

Champagne Perrot-Batteux Filles 1er Blanc de Blancs Brut NV, courtesy of Stéphanie Rigourd at Imperial Treasure Great World, 10 September 2026. Pale. Effusive nose of lime and lemon citrus that exude keen lift amid gentle yeasty overtones. Rounded and clean with a subtle minerally presence, yielding excellent clarity through its delicate sheen of soft bubbles with further notes of incense. Very refined and well balanced. I bought some!

Champagne Roger Coulon Heri-Hodie 1er Extra Brut NV, courtesy of Stéphanie Rigourd at Imperial Treasure Great World, 10 September 2026. Light golden, opening with considerable restraint, yielding only distant citrus although the lightweight palate is quite appropriately delicate and feminine, imbued with overtones of matchstick burnt and subtle minerals. From Vrigny, Montagne de Reims, comprising 100% pinot meunier.

2014 Domaine Michel Niellon Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Les Chaumées Clos de la Truffière, courtesy of Sanjay at Imperial Treasure Great World, 10 September 2026. This wine was resolutely shut in spite of its inviting golden hue and plump presence, yielding only some autumnal characters with subtle acidity. Very understated on the whole. May need a few more years of cellaring.

2021 Roc Breïa, courtesy of Dr Ngoi at Imperial Treasure Great World, 10 September 2026. Poured from magnum. Deceivingly rich in colour that belies the delicate light-medium structure of this wine. Very well balanced with a distinct feminine stance and fragrance, yielding fine clarity with a subdued acidity. Very classical. A Théo Dancer effort, derived from a 10-ha site in northern Mâconnais.

Close to maturity.

1993 Château Tertre Roteboeuf, courtesy of Dr Ngoi at Imperial Treasure Great World, 10 September 2026. Poured from magnum. Displaying an evolved dull crimson, this wine exudes a distinct funky reduction on the nose, leading to a medium presence of mature plummy fruit on a bed of dusty supple tannins, rounded with fine acidity and undertones of tobacco though it is threatening to fade. The final vintage where the label still states château.

1996 Château Latour, courtesy of Dr Ngoi. at Imperial Treasure Great World, 10 September 2026.Poured from magnum. Displaying an evolved crimson, this wine exudes wafts of cigar snuff amid red fruits and plums, fleshing out over time with solid presence and elegant intensity, structured with rounded supple tannins imbued with a sweetish undertow and fine acidity. Perhaps a little more developed than I’d expected from such a seminal Left Bank vintage in large format.
